My products

All my products have been made on Apple Mac. using Adobe Photo shop cs3 and Illustrator.

I started with an initial idea and started to work out how to use some of the software. During this period I had small meetings with the customer just for more ideas and what they thought of their product so far. There were many little changes along the way I’ve taken screenshots and saved the finish product.

CD cover and booklet

The job the cover is meant to do is get people pick the CD, have a look and buy the CD. I believe the finished product will do this.

1st product attempted
I believe this product will sell. It fits in with the genre of punk. The font that i used was a font from Dafont called "punked". i got the image of the cartoon characters off the Internet but due to the copyright on the CITV characters it would cost too much to produce this CD.

Finished product
When designing these products I have to think of hierarchy. With a CD cover the band title is most important in this case (New Found Glory) then the name of the single or album. Then it’s the picture/image is the next important thing. This is due to getting the target audience to pick up and eventually buy the CD. The picture is of Jamie Edwards and was taken using a blue screen with 3 point lighting in bounce boards. The reverse side of the cover has the track names on. They have to be inviting to the target audience but also legible. I have created this by scanning in a piece of ripped paper I typed over the top. I added pictures of things that are related to punk including safety pins, masking tape and an image of Jamie Reaid's "Never trust a punk"

Inside Booklet
The inside booklet is part of the brought product I used a picture of my hand to and changed the Hue and Saturation to make my hand darker. The paper was scanned in witch I then needed to cut out using the pen tool on Adobe Photoshop.

Double page spread
This double page spread was my first attempt. I feel it was a very good attempt but due to the genre I changed it to make it more punky. The writing I got off a website were the lead singer (Jordon Pundik) in an interview with an American news paper. I then picked out some quotes from the texts to re-alliterate the writing and to get the reader intrested.

Finished product

This is my finished product all the pictures were taken using a blue screen then cut out in Adobe Photoshop and had different back grounds put in. The most important part of the the double page spread is the title. This is due to getting the readers attention. Then it is the pictures of these are also used the get the readers attention. The writing is the next important thing. This is due to giving the reader the information they are after.

Magazine front cover

The magazine front cover is to get people to buy the magazine (Roll n' punk) it is a special edition were we are at the nme awards. The picture is of Perry Butler. The other pictures in the back ground are from the nme awards 2006. I got them from the Internet website (google.com)

Order of hierarchy;

  1. title
  2. pictures
  3. standfirst
  4. price of the magazine

Hierarchy (What needs to be big, what needs to be small)Within the grid there is an organisation of text. Every text must be written with hierarchy in mind. This will let the reader know where to start and guide them through the feature. Headings and titles are read first, then the standfirst which explains the article, then pull quotes, sub-heads and captions. Is there a clear contrast between objects on the page?
